Interesting to note Nick Piombino on his blog quoting The Meditations ofMarcus Aurelius. I've been reading the latest translation by C.Scot Hicks and David V. Hicks (brothers, who worked together by email) which they call The Emperor's Handbook(Scribner, 2002). It's pretty wonderful. I recommend it. A small taste from Book Four:
"Arm yourself for action with these two thoughts: first, do only what your sovereign and lawgiving reason tells you is for the good of others; and second, do not hesitate to change course if someone is able to show you where you are mistaken or point out a better way."
